Last week for Fancy Pants Tuesday it was 80 degrees with blue skies outside. I decided to make a special treat to go with our Prickly Pear Sparkling Lemonade:I wish I could take credit for this but I found it on pinterest months ago and made a mental note. (Who says no one ever uses what they find on pinterest?) Berries are one of summer’s greatest treats. Okay, it’s not quite summer yet but it felt like it last Tuesday! Add chocolate to them and I don’t know any girl that can resist. 🙂

Typically Fancy Pants Tuesdays are strictly a mother-daughter affair but a friend was walking Trinity home from school, along with her own daughter, and we spontaneously invited them to join us. While Karen and I chatted in the shade of the front porch I looked down to see this scene: I couldn’t resist grabbing my camera and snapping a photo because it seemed to represent the fact that the girls are getting old enough to move into a whole new phase of friendship. The kind where they share tender moments of doing each other’s hair while sharing confidences and the secrets of their hearts.

They are too young to realize, yet, the importance that friendship with other women will play in sustaining them through life’s ups and downs. For now it’s just fun to see how Trinity’s friendships have grown from the days of simply persuading two little ones, barely out of toddler-hood, to “share nicely.” It melted my heart a bit. And just like that our little tradition seems a little more important.
